AI Fitness Choreographer

An unconventional fitness planner that generates workout routines from your mood, music taste and available time.

01

App overview and objectives

A workout planner that choreographs sessions to music: the plan adapts to available equipment, time and energy level, and every set is timed to a track's structure so the session feels like a performance.

02

The problem worth solving

Most people quit training because plans are rigid and boring. Tying effort to music and adapting daily to real energy levels keeps the habit alive far longer than a fixed twelve-week PDF.

03

Target audience

  • Primary — Home and gym trainees who want structure without a personal trainer's cost.
  • Secondary — Coaches who want to distribute adaptive plans to many clients.

04

Roles and permissions

  • Visitor — read-only public pages, can sign up.
  • Member — owns their own records, cannot see other users' data.

05

Core features

  • Onboarding that captures goals, equipment, injuries and schedule
  • Daily plan generation with an energy-level check-in that reshapes the session
  • Guided workout screen with timers, rep cues and a music-synced progress bar
  • History with volume, streaks and personal records
  • Music mapping: warm-up, work interval and cooldown tracks by tempo
  • Coach chat for form questions and plan adjustments

Deliberately later

  • Wearable heart-rate integration
  • Video form checking
  • Group challenges

06

Technical stack

React with offline-capable local storage for in-session state, server functions for plan generation, Postgres for history.

Why: Workouts happen in basements with bad signal — the session screen must work offline and sync afterwards.

Alternatives: Native mobile app (better sensors and background audio, much more work) — start on web, wrap later if traction appears.

07

Conceptual data model

User — profile, goals, equipment, constraints

Plan — user, week, generated sessions, adaptation history

Session — plan, date, exercises, sets, target intensity

SetLog — session, exercise, reps, load, RPE

Track — title, BPM, energy tag, section timings

08

Integrations

  • A music streaming SDK or user-provided playlists
  • AI model for plan generation and coaching
  • Push notifications for reminders

09

UI design principles

  • Break the grid on purpose: overlapping layers, oversized type, one surprising interaction per screen.
  • Motion carries meaning — elements should morph between states instead of hard-cutting.
  • Keep exactly one experimental idea per page so the interface stays usable, not chaotic.

10

Security considerations

  • Health and injury data is sensitive: encrypt at rest and never use it for advertising.
  • The coach must refuse medical advice and defer to professionals for pain or injury.
  • Row-level access so a coach only sees clients who granted access.

Development phases

Phase 1 — Prove the core

  • — Onboarding that captures goals, equipment, injuries and schedule
  • — Daily plan generation with an energy-level check-in that reshapes the session
  • — Guided workout screen with timers, rep cues and a music-synced progress bar
  • — Static content and design system in place
  • — Basic analytics

Phase 2 — Make it real

  • — History with volume, streaks and personal records
  • — Music mapping: warm-up, work interval and cooldown tracks by tempo
  • — Coach chat for form questions and plan adjustments
  • — Accounts, sign-in and password reset
  • — Empty, loading and error states everywhere

Phase 3 — Polish and launch

  • — Performance, accessibility and SEO pass
  • — Legal pages, contact route and 404 handling
  • — Wire up: A music streaming SDK or user-provided playlists
  • — Wire up: AI model for plan generation and coaching

Phase 4 — Grow

  • — Wearable heart-rate integration
  • — Video form checking
  • — Group challenges

12

Challenges and solutions

Risk — Unsafe generated programming

Solution — Hard rules layer over the model: volume caps, mandatory rest days, exercise blacklists by injury.

Risk — Music licensing

Solution — Use a streaming SDK with user accounts rather than hosting audio.

Risk — Adherence drop-off after two weeks

Solution — Shrink the session when energy is low instead of skipping it, and celebrate streak recovery.

13

Future expansion

  • Nutrition companion
  • Studio-class licensing
  • Marketplace of coach-authored plan templates
