Playful Cat Café

A cute café site with resident cat profiles, booking slots and a merch corner for cat-themed products.

All ideas
Playful

01

App overview and objectives

A cat café site where the residents are the product: each cat has a profile, a mood status and a visit-booking slot, alongside the menu and shop. It should make booking a table feel like visiting friends.

02

The problem worth solving

Cat cafés live or die on emotional connection and capacity control. Letting people meet the cats online before booking fills quiet hours and reduces overcrowding at peak times.

03

Target audience

  • Primary — Local cat lovers and tourists booking a visit.
  • Secondary — Adopters, if the café partners with a shelter.

04

Roles and permissions

  • Visitor — read-only public pages, can sign up.
  • Member — owns their own records, cannot see other users' data.

05

Core features

  • Cat profiles with personality, photos, favourite spot and adoption status
  • Timed booking with a hard capacity limit per slot
  • Menu page for food and drinks
  • House rules explained warmly, with an acknowledgement at booking
  • Shop for merchandise and cat sponsorships
  • Live 'who is awake' indicator updated by staff

Deliberately later

  • Live cat camera
  • Membership passes
  • Birthday party bookings

06

Technical stack

React site, Postgres for cats and bookings, hosted payments for deposits, a simple staff admin.

Why: Capacity enforcement needs a real database transaction; everything else is content the staff can edit.

Alternatives: Generic booking widget (fast, no cat profiles) or a full restaurant POS (overkill and expensive).

07

Conceptual data model

Cat — name, age, personality tags, photos, adoption status, favourite spot

Slot — date, time, capacity, booked count

Booking — customer, slot, guests, deposit, rules accepted

MenuItem — name, description, price, category

Sponsorship — cat, sponsor, tier, message

08

Integrations

  • Payments for deposits and shop
  • Email and SMS reminders
  • Map embed

09

UI design principles

  • Rounded shapes, bright accent colours, springy micro-animations on every tap.
  • Reward progress visually — confetti, badges, character reactions.
  • Copy is short, warm and second-person; never corporate.

10

Security considerations

  • Enforce slot capacity server-side so overbooking is impossible under concurrency.
  • Store minimal customer data and purge after the visit window.
  • Adoption enquiries routed to the partner shelter, not stored publicly.

11

Development phases

Phase 1 — Prove the core

  • — Empty, loading and error states everywhere

Phase 3 — Polish and launch

  • — Wire up: Email and SMS reminders

Phase 4 — Grow

  • — Live cat camera
  • — Membership passes
  • — Birthday party bookings

12

Challenges and solutions

Risk — No-shows waste limited capacity

Solution — Small refundable deposit plus reminder messages.

Risk — Cat welfare vs. bookings

Solution — Staff can close slots instantly; publish quiet hours and a maximum daily visitor count.

Risk — Cats leave or pass away

Solution — Profiles archive gracefully with a memorial state rather than disappearing.

13

Future expansion

  • Shelter adoption pipeline
  • Franchise site template
  • Subscription for regulars
